Program Category and Agency Number in a CSC application: what three official notices print

Sources checked ยท Chinese Government Scholarship

The Program Category and Agency Number are two fields in the CSC online application. Each notice below prints its own pair of values for its programme: "Type A" with 0025 in the ACYLS guidebook, "Type A" with 00010 in the MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC notice, and "Type A" with 00009 in the Chinese Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship procedures. The ACYLS and MOFCOM texts say that the two fields are directly matched and that the receiving authority informs qualified candidates of the values to use.

The values in this summary apply only to the programme whose notice prints them.

ACYLS guidebook

The Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship prints the instructions in Section V, Instructions for Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS).

Step 3 reads: "Please choose Program Category "Type A"."

Step 4 reads: "Your Agency Number is: 0025."

The matching rule in Step 4 reads: "Program Category and Agency Number are directly matched, both are mandatory for online application. Scholarship receiving authorities (or application processing authorities) will inform the program category and agency number to candidates who are qualified for applying."

The same step says what happens with a wrong entry: "As Program Category and Agency Number are directly matched, application processing authorities will not receive your online application if the program category or agency number are not correct."

The Notes at the end of Section V add: "Application with incorrect Agency Number will not be processed."

MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC notice

Attachment 1 of the MOFCOM SCHOLARSHIP-CSC Program (Enrollment Guide) prints the instructions for the CSC Online Application System.

Step 3 reads: "Please select Program Category "Type A". (Only for applicants of MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program)"

Step 4 reads: "Your Agency Number is: 00010. (Only for applicants of MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program)"

Step 4 contains the same matching sentences as the ACYLS text: the two fields are "directly matched", both are "mandatory for online application", and the receiving authority "will inform the program category and agency number to candidates who are qualified for applying."

The same step contains the same consequence sentence: "application processing authorities will not receive your online application if the program category or agency number are not correct."

The Notes at the end of Attachment 1 add: "Application with incorrect Agency Number will not be processed."

Chinese Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship

Section III, Application Procedures, prints the steps. Step 3 is the step that covers these fields.

Step 3 reads: "'Program Category' and 'Agency Number' are necessary for application through CGSIS (Chinese Government Scholarship Information System). Please choose 'Type A' for 'Program Category' and type in '00009' as the 'Agency Number' for the CTUSRS program."

Step 3 also says: "Once the correct 'Program Category' and 'Agency Number' are entered in the system, name of the authority will be displayed automatically on the page."

The consequence sentence in Step 3 reads: "Please make sure you fill in correctly, otherwise you will not be able to continue your online application or your application will not be accepted."

Step 3 names no office that informs candidates of these values. Step 3 also does not use the words "directly matched", which appear in the ACYLS and MOFCOM texts.

Values by notice

Notice Program Category Agency Number Where printed
Guidebook to the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship Type A 0025 Section V, Steps 3 and 4
MOFCOM SCHOLARSHIP-CSC Program (Enrollment Guide) Type A (Only for applicants of MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program) 00010 (Only for applicants of MOFCOM Scholarship-CSC Program) Attachment 1, Steps 3 and 4
Chinese Trade Unions Silk Road Scholarship Type A 00009 Section III, Step 3

What to check before Step 4

Suggestion, not a rule: write the two values down from the notice of the programme you are applying to, and compare them with the Step 3 and Step 4 wording of that notice before you enter them.

The ACYLS and MOFCOM texts say the receiving authority will inform qualified candidates of the values. If you have been told a category or number by an office, use the notice of your own programme to check it.

For the wider application steps, see the CSC guide.
