The CSC online application system step by step, as printed in the ACYLS guidebook
The Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS) takes you through eight on-screen steps, from creating an account on campuschina.org to printing the completed form. The ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship (ACYLS) guidebook prints these as Steps 1 to 8 in its "Instructions for Chinese Government Scholarship Information System," and a separate Application Procedures section (Section 5) says where the printed form and hard copies go.
Step 1 — Register an account
Visit the "CSC Study in China" website and click "Scholarship Application for Students" at http://www.campuschina.org. Register an account through "CREATE AN ACCOUNT" and log in with your account.
Step 2 — Fill in personal details
Click "Edit Personal Details" and finish inputting personal details by filling in all the information, verifying and saving the information. After this section is complete, return to the previous page by clicking "Finish" and start filling in your application information.
Step 3 — Choose the program category
Choose Program Category "Type A." The ACYLS guidebook prints "Type A" as the program category for the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship; it is not stated here as the category for another scholarship.
Step 4 — Enter the agency number
Your Agency Number is 0025. The ACYLS guidebook prints 0025 as the agency number for the ASEAN-China Young Leaders Scholarship; it is not stated here as the number for another scholarship.
Program Category and Agency Number are directly matched, and both are mandatory for the online application. The instructions state that scholarship receiving authorities (or application processing authorities) will inform the program category and agency number to candidates who are qualified for applying. After you input the agency number, the matched agency name automatically shows on the page.
Because Program Category and Agency Number are directly matched, the application processing authorities will not receive your online application if the program category or agency number is not correct.
Step 5 — Application information and uploads
Move on to the section "Language Proficiency and Study Plan" and upload "Supporting Documents" as requested, then click "Submit" to complete the application. Check each part of your application carefully before submission and make sure that all the information and uploaded documents are valid and accurate.
The guidebook's Section Ⅳ, "List of Application Documents," names the documents to prepare and upload. Those items are listed below in that section's own numbering.
When Type A applicants choose the "Preferences of Institutes," the system automatically matches the available universities according to the chosen "Student Category" and "Preferred teaching language." For inquiries about the available majors of each university, the instructions point to http://www.campuschina.org/universities/index.html. The "Catalog of Discipline Field, First-level Discipline, Specialty" is available from "Help"; applicants may download the file to identify the relation between discipline and major.
Documents the upload step asks for (List of Application Documents, Section Ⅳ)
- Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (in English).
- A copy of your valid ordinary passport home page.
- Notarized highest diploma. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
- Academic report. This document in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations.
- A Study Plan or Research Proposal (written in Chinese or English). This should be a minimum of 500 words for non-degree students, and 800 words for graduate students.
- Two Recommendation Letters (written in Chinese or English). Applicants for the graduate programs or the short-term research scholar programs must submit two recommendation letters, one from the candidate's current employer and one from the candidate's university professor.
- Valid documents of your legal guardians in China (only required for applicants under the age of 18).
- Certificates of English language proficiency (IELTS with minimum 6.0 / TOFEL with 80 or above, or other internationally accepted certificates in the equivalent level).
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form (written in English, only required for applicants planning to stay in China for more than 6 months, can be downloaded from http://www.campuschina.org). The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms, or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant, are considered invalid. Plan your physical examination schedule carefully, as the result is valid for only 6 months.
- A resume or CV including the educational background and working experience after high school (upload to "Other Supporting Documents" in the CGSIS).
- Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
Step 6 — What changes after you submit
Once submitted, amendment cannot be made on "Personal Details" and "Application Information." Before the application is processed by the processing authorities, you can revoke the submitted application by clicking "Withdraw" and edit it. After revoking, you must submit a second time after re-editing, or the application will not be processed. Once the application is processed, it cannot be revoked.
Step 7 — Print the application form
Click "Print the Application Form" and download the form.
Step 8 — Submit through the dispatching authorities
Submit your scholarship application under the requirements of the dispatching authorities (or application processing agency).
The guidebook then states: "China Scholarship Council never entrust any individual or intermediary agent to process Chinese government scholarship applications. Kindly remind that all applicants to directly submit your scholarship applications through official dispatching authorities, avoiding being deceived. The website below is the only official website that China Scholarship Council publishing Study in China information, please do not trust information from any other portals or sources." - For applicants using Internet Explorer, close the "compatible view mode" function ahead of editing.
- Please fill in all application information in Chinese or English.
Where the hard copies go (Application Procedures, Section 5)
Section 5 of the ACYLS guidebook gives the application procedures in three steps.
Step 1 — Complete the online application by visiting CGSIS (visit http://www.campuschina.org and click "Scholarship Application for Students" to log in). Online submission of the application is compulsory for each applicant by completing the application information and uploading all necessary supporting documents.
Step 2 — Prepare the application documents according to the "List of Application Documents" and upload all the required documents into the online application system. Also submit the hard copies of the application form and relevant documents to the ACYLS national focal points / AUN Secretariat as required before the deadline. ACYLS national focal points of ASEAN Member States and AUN Secretariat will then review the qualifications of all applicants and provide the list of recommended recipients to the Joint Committee of the ACYLS, which will decide the final recommendation list.
Step 2 of Section 5 refers to "the deadline" but states no date for it; it instructs applicants to submit the hard copies to the ACYLS national focal points / AUN Secretariat "as required before the deadline."
Step 3 — The Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) will only process the applications recommended by the Joint Committee. Applicants not included in the list will not be considered. CSC reserves the right to make necessary adjustments to the applicants' host universities.
