The 13 items of the Chinese Government Scholarship document list and who needs each

The Chinese Government Scholarship application asks for the thirteen documents listed in Section VI of the Application Guide for Chinese Government Scholarship, items 1 to 13. Which papers you submit depends on your program, age and planned length of stay in China. Every rule below is a condition of that scholarship, not a general admission rule for self-funded students; the table gives each item, who must submit it, and the condition or window it states.

2 Clear scanned copy of the information page of ordinary passport All applicants If the passport validity is less than 12 months from the expected start date of study, renew the passport and use it for the application. An applicant who fails to apply for a passport due to objective reasons may submit valid documentation or documentary evidence carrying full English name, gender, nationality and date of birth, upon approval of the application receiving agency.
3 Diploma and certificate of highest education (notarized photocopy) All applicants A current university student shall submit the certificate of expected graduation or student status issued by the university.
4 Academic records All applicants Records in languages other than Chinese or English shall be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
5 Language qualification certificates Master's, doctoral, general scholar and senior scholar programs taught in Chinese must submit a valid HSK score report; programs taught in other languages require certificates such as IELTS or TOEFL per each university's requirements Chinese-taught applicants must meet the corresponding Chinese language proficiency requirements; other-language applicants follow each university's requirements.
6 CSCA Score Report Bachelor's applicants Must register for and take the CSCA before the application deadline and obtain a valid Score Report; contact the target institution for the required test subjects for the applied major.
7 Pre-Admission Documents All applicants Must provide a pre-admission document issued by the applying universities; includes pre-admission notice from the international students' admission department or invitation letter from schools or professors.
8 Study or research plan in Chinese or English All applicants No less than 200 words/characters for undergraduates; no less than 500 for scholars; no less than 1000 for postgraduates.
9 Recommendation letters Postgraduate program or senior scholar (academic education) Two letters in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
10 Own works Arts or design applicants Provide works such as videos and paintings.
11 Legal documents of legal guardian(s) in China Applicants under 18 Submit the legal documents of the guardian(s) in China.
12 Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form Applicants studying in China more than six months Original printed by Chinese quarantine authorities, filled in English and kept by the applicant; examination must cover all listed items; incomplete records or those without the physician's signature, hospital stamp or sealed photo are invalid; results valid for only six months.
13 Certificate of Non-Criminal Record (or Police Clearance Certificate) All applicants Valid certificate issued by local public security (such as the police station), usually issued within six months prior to the submission date of the application.

Questions people ask

Who must take the CSCA test?

Item 6 of Section VI requires an applicant seeking a bachelor's degree to register for and take the CSCA before the application deadline and obtain a valid Score Report. Item 6 also directs the applicant to contact the target institution to ask about and obtain the required test subjects for the applied major.

Do I need the Foreigner Physical Examination Form for a stay of six months or less?

Item 12 requires the photocopy from an applicant to study in China for more than six months. Item 12 does not name a document for an applicant studying six months or less.
